Fort Rise, Newhaven, England, GB

Built in the 19th centuary Newhaven Fort was one of coastal forts to be commissioned by the British Government under Prime Minister Lord Palmerston, following the apparently threatening behaviour of Napoleon the Third, who was busy building his navy and strengthening his own coastal defences. Designed by 22-year-old Lieutenant John Charles Ardagh of the Royal Engineers, construction of Newhaven Fort began in 1862 and took ten years and 6 million bricks to complete. The fort went on to play and important part of Britains defences during WWI and WWII.

There is a definite atmosphere of other-worldliness in some parts of the Fort, with staff and visitors reporting a sense of unease, as if someone is watching them. Some visitors to the Fort’s tunnels have also reported being pushed and seeing dark figures slipping into the shadows. Other reports have included the sounds of footsteps, shuffling, chains clinking and even someone whistling.

Will you hear the clanking of chains or the crunch of hobnailed boots marching on gravel as you hunt for the tag here.

Hint: TAKE GREAT CARE ON THE SLOPE Bottom left hinge.

Arriving at GZ another car pulled up at exactly the same time, they were also after what we were! Now there were six people running around in the dark looking for a hinge at the entrance to the fort, looking at the cords it appeared we were well off and three of us wandered away to what looked like a better location, taking care on the slope we were soon happy ‘bumpers’ with the tag in hand, feeling smug but somewhat compassionate for the other guys who had to drive back with heavy hearts, more tags to find so wishing them luck in their quest, good game great fun thank you
